Child + Teen Therapy
15-minute consultation to determine if we're the right fit for you
Children's brain is rapidly developing, it's still under construction. Kids often lose access to the thinking part of the brain and have a hard time regulating their emotions. I help kids to build awareness and skills to cope with difficult emotions and situations. Through art, kids can express their struggles and process their experiences.

Adolescence is a unique stage in life when self-esteem, self-acceptance, and self-development could be stalled. A guided creative process can increase self-acceptance, strengthen the sense of self and reduce stress.

Assessment
The initial consultation with caregivers serves as a crucial part of the assessment process. During this session, we will gather background information and discuss current strategies, aiming to understand what is working well and what may need adjustment. Both parents are encouraged to attend this session, as it allows for a comprehensive assessment of your child's needs. However, if preferred, the session can be split into two parts to accommodate individual schedules. Please note that this session is billed as a therapy session.

Recommendations
At the end of the initial consultation, recommendations will be provided on the best course of action moving forward.

What to Expect in Child/Teen Treatment
Sessions are conducted at one of our offered locations, where high-quality art supplies are provided in a wide variety.

Children younger than 6 are encouraged to participate with caregivers in sessions. For younger children, a combination of art and play therapy is offered, tailored to their developmental needs. Teenagers will be invited to engage in art therapy and emotion-focused therapy for youth, providing them with creative and effective avenues for expression. Additionally, talk therapy is available if it feels more familiar to your teen.

In sessions, your child will be invited to engage in creative expression with a choice of art supplies while having the opportunity to discuss the art created. I am here to provide guidance and support in any way necessary, whether it's holding the paper in place, giving demonstrations, or offering helpful tips.

One of the unique aspects of art therapy is that we often arrive at meaning and insight through art in unexpected and profound ways. It's important to note that art is an option and does not have to be completed during the session. The focus is on the process itself and the emotions it may evoke.
